Blogfest 2012

Blogfest 2012, the second annual New York City design event hosted by Kravet Inc., was a three day tour exclusively for interior design bloggers and featured the industry’s top shelter magazines, design celebrities and amazing venues. The event was held from May 21 through May 23, coinciding with design happenings such as the Kips Bay Decorator Show House and ICFF. This is our roundup of recap posts from the attendees of Blogfest 2012.

My tour of Blogfest 2012 began with a tour of the new Kips Bay Showhouse on the Upper West Side at The Addyn Residences which began in 1973 “when several dedicated women’s committee members of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club launched the Decorator Show House to raise funds for much needed after school and enrichment programs for New York City children.”

I’m back from Blogfest 2012 in NYC, which was — once again — graciously hosted by Kravet.  The amount of work that it must take to organize an event of this magnitude has to be astounding, and the Kravet team and family make it seem effortless.  To Beth, Ann, Jennifer and the entire Kravet family — thank you!

Forgetting the elevators in Hearst have no buttons, I scurried onto a full lift as the doors closed.  Fast forward .8 seconds, I was dumped out 15 floors too soon and aimlessly wandering the offices of Harper’s Bazaar while a: playing it unbelievably cool b: breathing into a paper bag while wondering if I would ever find my way to the 44th floor.

It is oh so elusive: not quite a conference, and not a trade fair. Blogfest is described, instead in a rather understated way. As an event.  In attendance are interior designers, design enthusiasts, e-boutique owners, furniture manufacturers, stylists, and graphic designers.  We all blog and most of us are entrepreneurs, and solopreneurs at that.

We kicked off Blogfest by visiting the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse. My oh my were we in for a treat!

I attended Blogfest 2012 and had a good time! The sponsors put on a 3-day event that included a tour of Elle Decor’s Modern Life Concept House and Kips Bay Decorators Show House- both of which included some beautiful decor. The event also featured speakers like Newell Turner, editor-in-chief of House Beautiful and designers Thom Filicia, Alexa Hampton and Darryl Carter.

This year I had a fabulous, fun roommate…Whitney from Between the Boxwoods and I got to hang with some of my fav blogger friends, as well as made lots of new friends!

It was year #2 for Blogfest and while the format stayed the same, the attendees and content were fresh. Panels, parties and tours were all packed into three full days planned and hosted by Kravet Inc.

BLOGFEST 2012 has ended, and as I do after most events I attend, I’m serving up a piping hot plate of review and recap.

Listening to top tier magazine editors give engaging presentations along with some of the most dynamic personalities in the design world was an incredible treat.

Just to be walking the halls of the building where House Beautiful, Veranda and Traditional Home are published was motivating, and then to be able to listen to the various points of views from the Editor in Chiefs was really inspiring!

Regardless of the tight spaces + lots of people, it was great to meet many of my digi-friends in person. And as a magazine journalism major in college, going to the Hearst Tower was like going to the Vatican for me.

Blogfest was a great event and I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to attend. Kravet did a superb job of hosting.

On day 2 of  Blogfest 2012 we enjoyed an amazing breakfast on the 44th floor of iconic Hearst Towers, we were introduced to editors from Hearst Publications and met our sponsor, Kravet, Inc.’s President, Cary Kravet.

The Hearst Tower sets the tone for the excitement of Blogfest.  You can’t help but feel that you’re a part of something amazing when you ascend into that Manhattan skyline surrounded by people whose sole purpose is the celebration of beautiful homes.

Beth Greene, Ann Feldstein and Jennifer Powell executed a hugely successful event where I had the opportunity to visit New York City’s design culture.

There was definitely a “help me to help you” attitude because the business of design is changing, and changing quickly!

Thank you Kravet for allowing us a sneak peek inside your design studios-what a magical and inspiring environment!

I was able to hang out with old friends and meet some new blogger friends!!
