Jane Gibout

Jane Gibout, a native Chicagoan, has lived in the Atlanta area since 1982. She studied at the University of Wyoming, The American Academy of Art with Vicki Lackowski in Chicago, where she was first introduced to the medium of pastel. More recently, she has studied with Connier Reilly, a classical realist painter living in the Atlanta area and founding president of the Southeastern Pastel Society.

It is the atmospheric quality of pastel which has drawn her to the medium. “I find it difficult to express this same atmosphere in other media. The strength of its color, its brilliance and permanence are difficult to duplicate in oil or water color.” Ordering the rich colors and complexities of pattern in a landscape offers infinite opportunities to convey themes of peace, serenity and intimacy which she strives for in each work. “I want to share the emotion I feel for the subject with the viewer.”

Ms. Gibout is a signature member of the Southeastern Pastel Society and has been included in many of their exhibitions juried by master pastellists such as Albert Handell and Carole Katchen. One of her most recent awards includes the Oil Pastel Association Award for Outstanding work at the Salmagundi Club in New York. Please visit the shop to purchase her limited edition prints.
