Laura Lacambra Shubert, daughter of a Basque father and American mother, grew up in Florida and Spain. She chose art as a career at an early age. Laura studied painting, drawing and printmaking at Southern Methodist University, where she received her B.F.A. in 1986.
After studying painting at Academie Port Royal, in Paris, France for one year, she returned to the United States and began exhibiting in solo and group shows across the country. In 2000, she was named a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in London, England (established in 1754).
